Born in 1968, Erdal Okur graduated from Marmara University Faculty of Medicine (English) in 1992 and took his first step into medicine. After completing his compulsory service in Van and Kırklareli between 1993-1995, Okur started his thoracic surgery residency training in 1995 at Süreyyapaşa Thoracic Surgery Center, which was the largest thoracic surgery center in Turkey at the time.
In 1999, he worked on lung cancer at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, USA. In 2000, after qualifying as a “Thoracic Surgery Specialist”, he was appointed as the “Chief Resident” at the same center in the same year. In 2007, he worked on ‘endoscopic lung surgery’ and ‘lung transplantation’ in the Department of Thoracic Surgery at Washington University Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, USA. In 2009, he received the title of ‘Deputy Clinical Chief’ and in 2010 he received the title of ‘Associate Professor’.
He followed the latest developments in his field in the Department of Thoracic Surgery at Zurich University Faculty of Medicine and Zakopane Thoracic Surgery Center in Poland as a Visiting Faculty Member for a short period of time.
Prof. Dr. Erdal Okur has been working at Acıbadem Healthcare Group and Acıbadem University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Thoracic Surgery since 2011.
Prof. Dr. Erdal Okur is married and has two children.
Scientific Publications
Prof. Dr. Erdal Okur has over 100 publications, 38 of which are international publications in reputable medical journals published abroad. Prof. Okur, who has authored chapters in national and international books, has been invited to many national and international conferences and congresses as a speaker or panelist. In 2008, the study he presented at the European Society of Thoracic Surgeons Congress in Italy was among the best 8 studies. He received the best study award 2 times in national meetings. He presented his 9 different studies in international scientific meetings.
